The classes I teach for UMUC Asia are listed below. All of the Face-to-face (F2F) classes that I am scheduled to teach are offered in the Hybrid format. Hybrid classes offer the advantage of meeting in the classroom for HALF the time required for regular F2F courses. This offers students (in particular military students) increased flexibility for juggling their studies with their already busy work schedules.
BMGT110 Introduction to Business and Management: (3) cr.
(For students with little or no business background. Recommended preparation for many other BMGT courses.) This lively and dynamic introduction to business provides an understanding of the fundamental concepts of business management and leadership. It presents business principles and practices in the context of everyday business events and human affairs, as well as a historical perspective. Students will better understand the interrelated dynamics of business, society, and the economy.
This class is offered on line and in hybrid format. Online classes meet only in the online classroom. Hybrid session meet Face-to-face (F2F) for an “in-the-classroom” session, usually on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday, not both) in eight 3 hour sessions vice the previously offered weekly six hour sessions. In addition to the classroom sessions, students will also have online assignments due each week. There is no final examination for BMGT110; rather, the two papers and four quizzes will serve as an authentic assessment in lieu of a final exam.
BMGT324 Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Starting a Small Business: (1) cr.
An introduction to entrepreneurship and small business start-up. Students will be able to identify fundamental skills necessary for managing a small business entrepreneurship and critical elements of a business plan, including associated risks and challenges. Topics include business structures, competitor analysis, capital acquisition, and marketing. BMGT 324 is recommended preparation for BMGT 325.
Beginning in Academic Year 2011/12, this class will be offered F2F on Okinawa in hybrid format. Classes will meet on weekends (Saturday or Sunday, not both) in three 2 and a half hours sessions vice the previously offered all day sessions. Students will also have online assignments due each week. The Term Project (The Learning Journal) is submitted through the online classroom portal by the end of the session. There is no final exam for BMGT 324; rather, the learning journal will serve as an authentic assessment in lieu of a final exam.
BMGT325 The Small Business Plan: (1) cr.
An introduction to the preparation of a business plan for starting a small business. Students will be able to draft a small-business plan using research to identify prospects and resources. Topics include prior performance, business expenses, customer service, competitive analysis, and financial management. Although BMGT 324 and BMGT 325 are independent courses, they are, nevertheless, complementary.

MGST398F Conflict Resolution in Organizations: (1) cr.
A study of the proper management of conflict as a natural and healthy element of effective organizational functioning. Focus is on understanding why inappropriate conflict management leads to dysfunctional employee behavior, whereas appropriate conflict management leads to motivated and supportive behavior. A model of basic conflict management strategies is presented, and the circumstances under which each strategy is (or is not) appropriate are discussed.

MGST160 Principles of Supervision (3) cr.
An introductory study of the skills required to effectively supervise and manage employees in organizations, such as knowing how to plan, organize, and control the work load and understanding worker behavior. Topics include the role and function of supervisors, recruitment and evaluation of workers, management by objectives, task delegation, motivation strategies, training and professional development, communication and conflict management, and time management.
