Welcome to my website.

Okinawa Japan is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is warmed by the Kuroshio "Black Current" which is similar to America's Gulf Stream. As a result, we enjoy warm temperatures pretty much year round. The Prefecture Capital City of Naha sits at roughly the same latitude as Miami Florida. This makes our summers as one recently retired Marine I met so eloquently put it "Stupid Hot" but our winters are quite mild and we enjoy the great outdoors pretty much year round.

The main island of Okinawa is roughly 68 miles long north to south. Width varies greatly but averages around five miles wide and is home to more than a million people not counting all the U.S. military folks stationed here. The vast majority of the population lives on the southern third of the island. Aside from the locals, the large numbers of Japanese and American military, the place is also becoming a very popular tourist attraction for people from across the Far East.

Okinawa is more than just my place of residence. It’s become my adopted home, learning about its people, the history and culture started as a hobby and has evolved into one of my passions. As a result, in all of my newspaper articles as well as my blog, I try to educate American's stationed or living here a little more about the place. My hope is to enhance peoples understanding and bridge the differences in culture and history that separate us.

This site is primarily to showcase my work as a writer and photographer. It's also  an information source for military personnel presently stationed here, those about to be transferred here and those who were stationed here long ago who have questions about Okinawa? Do you have orders to Okinawa and want to get the low down on living conditions, what the surrounding communities are like and what the local political situation is for American's here? Are you a former military or family member who was once stationed here and would like to know how the place has changed? If you can answer yes to either of those two questions, then you’ve come to the right place. Read on, check out my blog or look over some of my favorite websites which are located on my links page. If you still have questions after that, check out the contact page and drop me a line.

My blog is now updated weekly and located on the links pages. There you can also view a few of my more serious writings and check out some of my favorite Okinawa related web-sites too.

Read on and I hope you find the site helpful.
